Become a Community Ambassador

Help Your Neighborhood Become More Wildfire Ready

Wildfire preparedness starts at the neighborhood level. Coal Creek Canyon Community Ambassadors are local volunteers who help connect their neighbors with wildfire preparedness information, resources, and opportunities to take action.

You do not need to be a wildfire expert to become a Community Ambassador. You just need an interest in helping your neighborhood become more prepared and resilient.

What is a Community Ambassador?

Coal Creek Canyon is divided into 15 Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) plan units. Community Ambassadors serve as a connection between their plan unit, the Coal Creek Canyon Wildfire Mitigation Coordinator, local fire district, and other wildfire mitigation partners.

Ambassadors help make sure information and opportunities reach the people who live in their neighborhoods while also helping identify local concerns, priorities, and project ideas.

What Do Community Ambassadors Do?

Community Ambassadors may:

  • Share wildfire preparedness information and local resources with neighbors

  • Maintain or help build a neighborhood email list

  • Let neighbors know about upcoming events, grants, slash disposal opportunities, and mitigation programs

  • Help organize neighborhood projects such as Saws & Slaws workdays

  • Gather feedback about wildfire concerns and mitigation priorities

  • Help identify potential neighborhood projects

  • Connect interested property owners with available resources and technical assistance

  • Attend monthly Community Ambassador meetings to learn, share updates, and connect with local partners

The role is flexible. Some Ambassadors organize neighborhood projects, while others primarily help distribute information and connect residents with resources.

You Don't Have to Do It Alone

Community Ambassadors are supported by the Coal Creek Canyon Wildfire Mitigation Coordinator and a network of local partners.

Monthly Ambassador meetings provide opportunities to learn about wildfire mitigation, ask questions, hear about available resources, and connect with other Ambassadors working throughout the canyon.

Ambassadors can also work as a team. More than one person can represent a plan unit, which helps spread out the work and brings different perspectives and connections to the neighborhood.
