After 14 months of hard work by many scientists, foresters, firefighters, local agencies and organizations, community organizers and CCC residents, the Coal Creek Canyon Fire Protection District (CCCFPD) finally has its updated CWPP. Presented to the community on May 2, 2024, it is now YOUR CWPP. The CCCFPD has handed it off to us, the residents of CCC, to implement the Plan recommendations. If we do this, the Fire Department has a much greater chance of keeping us safe when wildfires come.

What will we learn at the Focus Group?

The Implementation Team will share a presentation on risk ratings specific to your community, including fuels mitigation needed to protect homes, entire neighborhoods, and our volunteer firefighters. We will share information about Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) home hardening and defensible space work that can give your and your neighbors' homes a fighting chance to survive a wildfire, as well as the identified non-survivable evacuation routes in each Plan Unit. We'll also provide information about evacuation planning. Finally, we'll divide into groups by Plan Unit to identify priorities and plan next steps.

How Do I Prepare for the Focus Group?

1.    Take a look at the CWPP.

Full CWPP 279-page pdf document. Find the scientific data which supports the risk level assessments, and recommendations made for mitigating those risks. For easy access, the page numbers in the Table of Contents are links to that section of the document. Cool, huh?

Online CWPP. This is a shortened version of the CWPP in a storymap form. Use the full CWPP to find in-depth answers to questions.

Resident Action Plan. This document highlights the mitigation actions you can take as a homeowner and the recommendations made for your specific CWPP Plan Unit. Again, find answers in the full CWPP.

Go to www.CoalCreekCWPP.org and click the buttons for each form of the CWPP.

2.    Talk to your neighbors.

All of us have a part to do, and our role can be as big or as small as we need. Consider lending your skillset to help form or operate a neighborhood fire mitigation group. Ask neighbors to carpool to your Focus Group meeting. Your Plan Unit Community Ambassador will attend and help find answers to your questions. Email us at CWPPforCCC@gmail.com to find your Community Ambassador.

3.    Contact the CWPP Implementation Committee

The CCCFPD formed this committee to assist Plan Unit groups in implementing the CWPP recommendations. CWPP Implementation Team members include Saws and Slaws, Blue Mountain Forest Stewardship Initiative, Crescent Park Community Fire Protection Association, and other less formal resident fire mitigation groups to share hard won wisdom and experience in their areas of service. This team will coordinate activities with CSFS, USFS, CDOT, Boulder Wildfire Partners, Jeffco and Gilpin counties, Boulder and Jeffco Open Space, Boulder Watershed Collective, Boulder and Jeffco Conservation Districts, United Power and other local utilities, neighboring fire districts, and more. Email CWPPforCCC@gmail.com for more information.
