Interested in Wildfire Resilience? Become a Community Ambassador!

Did you know that Coal Creek Canyon has a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP)? Updated in 2024, the CWPP serves as a roadmap for reducing wildfire risk and improving community resilience throughout the canyon. It is already helping guide dozens of projects focused on forest health, emergency preparedness, and neighborhood wildfire mitigation.

To keep these efforts local and community driven, the CWPP divides Coal Creek Canyon into 15 Plan Units. These smaller neighborhoods encourage neighbors to communicate, collaborate, and take action together. Each Plan Unit is supported by volunteer Community Ambassadors who help connect residents with wildfire mitigation resources, funding opportunities, educational programs, and neighborhood projects.

Community Ambassadors play an important role in keeping their neighborhoods informed and engaged. They share information about local programs and events, help identify neighborhood priorities, encourage participation in mitigation efforts, and serve as a connection between residents and the Coal Creek Canyon CWPP Implementation Committee.

Ambassadors have helped organize neighborhood meetings, coordinate community work days, share information about grants and cost share opportunities, and connect residents with local wildfire mitigation programs. They also help bring neighborhood concerns and ideas forward so that projects and resources better reflect the needs of each community.

The role is flexible and can look a little different in every Plan Unit. Some ambassadors enjoy organizing projects and events, while others prefer sharing information through email or helping connect neighbors with available resources. There is no requirement to be a wildfire expert. The most important qualifications are caring about your community, wanting to help your neighbors, and being willing to stay informed and share information.

Being a Community Ambassador is also a great way to meet your neighbors and become more involved in shaping the future of Coal Creek Canyon. Strong neighborhoods are often the first step toward building a more prepared and resilient community.

We are currently looking for Community Ambassadors in the following Plan Units:

• Camp Eden

• Burke

• Central Canyon

• Coal Creek Heights

• Plainview

• Pika
